Well what can we say !!!!!!! One of the most unusual 1934 ChicagoWorld's Fair toys is this Standard Oil "Live Power" complete set of nine (9) pot metal/slush mold Circus Animals each with their original individual labeled boxes. The large life size versionswere supposedly on display in the Standard Oil Building. These Circus Animals include Kangaroo, Ostrich, Bear.Tiger, Giraffe, Zebra, Leopold, Lion and Elephant. Obviously they are different sizes--from about 5" long and 5"-3" tall- the conditions range from full surface paint to approx 30% surface paint. The toys could be played with individually or hooked together to form the complete circus train. We have only one of the connectors, however very easy to replicate. Each of the nine boxes are individually titled with the appropriate animal along with with it's name. Seven (7) of the boxes are complete although a couple may have a loose flap--one box is missingboth bottom and top, one is missing top flap(see photos)--all have creases--probably because the toys are heavier than the box is designed to hold--several still have the original tissue the toy was wrapped in. Each box has the list of complete set of 9 animals along with the six vehiclesalso available. These were supposedly available in all Standard Oil service stations for 25 cents. Our internet search provided very little information--James Julia sold a lot of eight with some of them broken and three boxes in 2011. Below is an ad from Old Gas web site of 4 animals and no mention of boxes. Group of 8 rare Standard Oil "Live Power" promo items that were featured at the 1934 Chicago World's Fair. The pull toys are made of pot metal. Lion and zebra missing tail, Bear has been reinforced inside with some wax due to cracking. Also in group is a large pinback button, ink blotter and 2 diecut unused window stickers. There were several other collectible animals available in the series given by Standard oil. I only have the 4 animals and 4 other promos. All 8 items are for sale as a group only. $595 shipped Any additional information would be appreciated.
